collaboration work

After long discussions with tutors
my group and i formulated a design that integrates the design studio with the outdoor courtyard space by intwining the tree to be used as a gateway between life and death.

Life is expressed by the flourishing green leaves that is scripted so that as it floats closer to the Architecture building, the free spirit of the outside courtyard dies and with it the leaves turn brown and die away.

  1. I liked the way how you accessed the studio, through the tree. I also liked the idea of life and death in the design and the transition from light to dark.
I wasnt sure however why the design only connected to the 2nd and 3rd floor and how it only really worked one way, would of been nice to have access back to the ground possibly and to the other floors.
I thought it gave an interesting approach to entering the building and also liked the contrast from entrance to the inside of the building.

  2. This came out to be a great group effort, with a common philosophy or goal to integrate the building directly to the nature in the courtyard. This has been successfully achieved by identifying the tree in the courtyard and creating a link with this to the architecture studios.

The use of the spiders web is also clever in again linking this back to nature, but also a scene that the tunnel trapping you into the studio to be fed on by those occupying the building (teaching staff) as it would in real life in catching a fly for the spider. Creating a very grotesque portrayal on the architecture building.

This connection was also successfully connected together with the attraction of light in order to guide students through this dark tunnel, which is much needed in order to determine which direction to go, my concern is that this might be too dark and not attracting as it seemed that you were being swashed in going into the the architecture building, but might capture the adventurous.

It seemed that this threshold had only been designed for the entrance on the building from the courtyard to the 3rd floor and in my opinion seemed weak in the other direction.

overall it seemed a well thought out and crafted intervention, with working scripts the conection of objects.

  3. It was very interesting to see a group project, and I thought the design had input from everyone.

In your presentation, I felt that there was a directional bias. The threshold explored was from courtyard and third floor studios. This could have been developed further by including more studios perhaps, or resolving the return journey.

It was interesting to see light being involved in your exploration of threshold. Look forward to seeing this develop in your inhabit project.
