Design Idea

The accumulation of abandoned ideas can over a long period of time manifest.
By the allocation of a site to place abandoned ideas, this catalysts the collection of more design junk.
Inevitably, this trash space is manifested with design junk, this swollen volume displaces the flow of the working environment,consequently-as in the reading of Pirig, R. M: Lila, an inquiry into morals-it becomes neccessary to organise the design space.
By performing this manual task, design junk is transformed so that it becomes accessible to a broader interpretation and applicable to new sources of ideas. This metamorphosis converts junk into a rebirth of ideas.
I applied this concept into my design from the idea of bacteria that is treated, processed and developed so that the resulting subject is converted into medicine (like penicillin), so that the result is beneficial.

  1. I thought that you explored reasoning and the rational behind your design well.
I liked how your form developed from natural forms, and the relationship between bacteria and trash and also the grotesque inspiration.

I thought you could possibly develop further your design in the context of where it would be placed in the studio. I saw where it was placed in a photograph, but was a little confused to whether it was a wall or more an installation.

I overall liked your design. I thought it showed a clear understanding of the brief, readings, 3D scanner and an interesting way to access design 'junk'.

  2. This design was well thought through with the link with the shape of the trash can influenced by the structure of the foot fungi relating to the idea of disease, attempting to go back to the theme of Grotesque portrait and Medieval Carnival. I think at the scale of the trash-can could have allowed the installation to act with more of a function in the studio, this could be achieved for example if the trash-can could act as a seat which students could relax on while they gather design ideas.
